We have a complete scouring facility for washing your fibers.

The Quality of your yarn starts with the quality of your fiber.

Examine your fiber and make sure that it is high quality, Spinning your fiber will bring great joy and increase the value of your farm products. But don't spend your money if your fiber is not of high quality.

Skirting your fleeces:

We can skirt your fleeces for you. This service will cost you $1.00 per pound.

Or you can skirt your own fleeces.

  1. Remove all tags and short fibers from your fleece, A good rule is to remove all staple that is shorter than you little finger.
  2. Remove all vegetable matter. Vegetable matter does not wash out! Our machines will remove some of it but not all of it.
  3. Second Cuts - Watch your shearer and let him know that you want no second cuts. This happens when the shears pass over the same place twice. The first pass takes off the long staple fleece. The second cut will be short fibers that will range from 1/8" to 1/2". These short fibers will cause your yarn to have nubs. If you lay your fleece out with the inside up after shearing these second cuts can easily be removed.

Scouring your fiber:

We can scour your fiber in our state of the art scouring facility for $3 per pound if you have over 50 lbs or $4 per pound if you have under 50 lbs.

If you choose to scour your own fiber remember that we may refuse to process it if it still has to much lanolin in the fiber. Wash your wool carefully with detergent and lay it out to dry. Be careful that it does not felt. Do not agitate.
