Rural Arts Center

Tapetes de Lana has recently been awarded a grant through the USDA's Rural Development Administration and its Community Facility Economic Impact Grant program for the purchase of the old Hanosh Building, which is situated in the heart of Mora. It is one of Mora's largest buildings with approximately 24,000 sq. ft. and is situated at the corner of Mora's major traffic junction. Because of its central location and significant physical space, the Hanosh property provides an ideal location for community and economic development projects in Mora County.

The Hanosh Building is seventy years old and the home of a cinema/theater, which seats 240 people and encompasses 3,000 sq. ft., a ten room hotel and the general area which includes a kitchen facility, a restaurant area, and one of Tapetes de Lana's weaving studios.

Our vision for this building is to house a rural art center that will expand the possibilities for our weavers as well as other artisans of the area. We will develop a community kitchen that will serve as a center for education as well as offering a space for commercial ventures and a good meal for our visitors. The theater will be renovated to benefit the youth of the community and the local schools.

The Hanosh building has been inspected and is sound structurally but in dire need of a complete facelift.
